About this Blog

We're the team behind Talkable.chat.

A few years ago, one of us started learning Vietnamese to talk with his wife and her family. Despite months of perfect Duolingo streaks, he still couldn't hold a basic conversation. That frustration—the gap between "knowing" a language on paper and actually speaking it—eventually became Talkable.chat.

We're three people building Talkable nights and weekends while juggling day jobs and family life. We've all experienced the same problem: apps that are great at gamification but terrible at helping you actually speak.

What This Blog Is About

This blog is where we share what we're learning about language learning, building products, and the messy reality of creating something on nights and weekends.

You'll find:

  • Product updates - What we're building and why
  • Language learning insights - The science and practice behind what actually works
  • Building in public - Honest takes on the challenges, mistakes, and small wins
  • User stories - How people are using Talkable in ways we never expected

We're not language learning experts or fluent polyglots. We're just people frustrated by apps that teach you to describe what animals are wearing instead of helping you have real conversations.

Why We're Doing This

Language learning apps have gotten really good at gamification and really bad at helping you actually speak. We think there's a better way: give people tools to capture vocabulary from their real lives, then help them practice using it in actual conversations.

We call it the collector's mindset, and we're building Talkable around it.

Get In Touch

Building something worthwhile means listening to people actually using it. If you have thoughts, questions, feature requests, or just want to tell us what's broken—we're at [email protected].

Thanks for reading. Now go collect some vocabulary.
